Vaccination milestone met in North Yorkshire and York

NHS North Yorkshire and NHS Vale of York CCGs have successfully delivered the national commitment of offering all those aged 50 and over a Covid-19 vaccination by 15th April.

Those aged 45 to 49 are now being encouraged to contact the National Booking Service either online or by calling 119 to book an appointment for their vaccination. In addition, second doses continue to being given across North Yorkshire and York. All current COVID-19 vaccinations being administered in the UK require two doses to provide the best protection from serious illness.

Dr Charles Parker said: It is fantastic news that North Yorkshire and Vale of York CCGs have met their target of offering everyone aged 50 and over a vaccination. This is thanks to an army of GP practice staff and volunteers and has been a fantastic collaboration between the NHS, local authority and community partners.

'I would like to say thank you to everyone, including the public in North Yorkshire and York, who have enabled us to meet this important milestone.'

Dr Nigel Wells added: ' We are now moving towards the national commitment of offering a vaccination to all adults by 31st July and we are confident that we can achieve this if the supply anticipated by Government is delivered.

'The vaccination programme continues to evolve as it progresses. Last week Askham Bar vaccination site became the first in North Yorkshire and York to deliver the Moderna vaccine giving even greater resilience to the vaccine programme as we move towards the 31 July milestone.'

Amanda Bloor said 'We have made great progress in the vaccination programme in North Yorkshire and York. As we proceed along the roadmap out of lockdown, taking the vaccine is the best thing we can do to protect ourselves and those around us so that we can move towards a more normal life.

'I encourage everyone offered the vaccination to come forward when you are invited. I also urge you to attend for your second dose when you are called to ensure that you benefit from the maximum protection that the vaccine has to offer.'
