North Yorkshire and York Community Wheelchair Services

Published on 18 November 2016

A new service provider is set to deliver Community Wheelchair Services for patients requiring the assessment, provision, maintenance and repair of wheelchairs and associated equipment, across North Yorkshire.

The project, to commission a new Community Wheelchair service, started in November 2015 when local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) joined forces to call for the opinions of local wheelchair users and clinicians. The information collected from conversations, surveys and drop-in sessions was used to shape the development of the new service.

With effect from the 1 December 2016, Nottingham Rehab Supplies (NRS) will deliver the new Community Wheelchair Service working closely with Blatchford Clinical Services, which will deliver the clinical assessment element of the service. The new providers will replace services currently delivered by Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust and Ross Care.

The overarching aim of the new Community Wheelchair Service is to ensure a safe, effective service that meets the individual needs of service users, their parents/carers and families  through the timely assessment, provision, maintenance and repair of wheelchairs and associated equipment.
