Improved access to primary care services

Updated 5 September

The way Vale of York residents are able to access their GP services is changing. From autumn 2018 GP practices in many areas will be offering extended opening hours.

In addition to standard, weekday appointment times people living in York and its surrounding area will have the opportunity to visit or talk to a healthcare professional in the evenings, at weekends and on bank holidays.

You will have more flexibility to book a routine appointment when it suits you and you may be able choose a face-to-face, telephone or video consultation to ensure you receive advice when you need it.

During the Big Conversations roadshow in 2017 we asked the Vale of York local community to share what’s important to them about their healthcare services and what improvements they would like to see. One of the main themes was providing better access to primary care services. This new scheme will help us to achieve this for local people.

Following a procurement process the NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group has awarded two contracts to providers in the area. Nimbuscare Ltd, a group of local GP practices, and Modality Partnership, an NHS organisation, will be providing further primary care services to patients.

Nimbuscare Ltd is made up of a group of local GP practices. They will be delivering extended opening hours in practices across the York Central area and Pocklington. The new service will be based at four hub sites including:
