Be the commissioner
In conjunction with our partners at Healthwatch North Yorkshire, we developed a task that gives the public with the opportunity to be health commissioners.
In October 2014 we invited patients and members of the public to ‘be the commissioner’ at our Patient and Public Engagement Forum.
We were able, in theory, to hand the commissioning reins and budget over to the community and create conversations about local healthcare services in a unique way. The task was as real to life as possible and participants were asked to manage various situations. We simplified the commissioning process, but the outcomes told us what members of the local community view as important issues.
The task is interesting, thought-provoking but above all, it’s enjoyable and it is tailored so everyone in the local community has the opportunity to get involved, whatever their background.
